Four Qualities of a Strong Board of Directors
A board of directors is a group of people who provide solid governance for an organization, including non-profits. It should be able to recognize and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization’s strategy, and create an environment that is constructive and supportive and encourages innovation.
A great board is comprised of members with expertise in governance and financial oversight and legal issues. It could also include members with expertise in other areas, such as sustainability, management of talent, and digital transformation. Depending on the needs of the business the board can be made up of employees, volunteers or even members chosen by other shareholders.
